Tarbagatay (Тарбағатай ауданы, Тарбагатайский район) is a district of East Kazakhstan Province in eastern Kazakhstan. The administrative center of the district is the town of Aksuat.

Climate

Very continental. Winter is cold (in January average temperature –22°С, –30°С) and summer is hot (in July average temperature +25°С, +35°С). Very poor precipitation (200–300 mm/year) mostly in winter season[1]

Toponym

The name Tarbagatay derives from Mongolian (Tarbagan marmot) as marmot mountains
